Hero appointment types are configured in order to provide a service for patients to book into your practice. You can use them on their own or if you have an EHR setup (EMIS or SystemOne) with Hero, you can directly link with any slot types you have in your EHR.
When viewing the Appointment types table in the settings of Hero, you can add a new slot type:
Search for the slot type you want to add from your EHR.
Select the slot type you want to add (You can add multiple slots by searching again and adding additional slot types).
Click save to link that slot type to Hero and it will appear in the table.
To finish your setup, continue to edit your appointment to ensure it's suitable for patients when they book:
Find your slot type in the table and select the Options dropdown and then Edit.
Provide a patient facing name for you appointment to help patients identify a suitable appointment.
Set attendance as video and an email will be sent to the patient prior to the appointment taking place in order to join a video link for their consultation.
Choose an intake form for patients to complete prior to your booking.

Setting up appointment attendance on appointment types ensures accurate tracking of attendees for your scheduled appointments as well as provides clear instructions for patients regarding whether they need to be at the practice or join via telephone or video. Follow the steps below to configure attendance settings correctly.
Navigate to Appointment Types
Go to Settings in your dashboard using the cog icon at the top right of the Hero app.
Select Appointments and then Appointment Types from the menu.
Edit an Appointment Type
Locate the appointment type you wish to configure.
Click Edit from the 'Options' menu to access its configuration settings.
Set Up Attendance
In the appointment type details, look for the Attendance section.
Adjust the settings according to your needs:
Attendance Type – Choose from the available attendance options:
Face to face – The patient will attend the appointment in person.
Video – The appointment will be conducted through a video call.
Telephone – The appointment will be conducted over the phone.
Save Changes
After configuring the attendance settings, click Save to apply the changes.
Attendance settings change the information displayed to patients while booking online and for automated reminders.
Ensure that staff members responsible for managing appointments are aware of the attendance type and how it affects reminders sent to patients..
When you're not using an EHR to power Hero, you can configure your appointments with further options.
Set the duration of the appointment to block out the appropriate time for the appointment. This will be reflected on the Hero diary when a booking is made and gives a clear picture of clinician appointment schecdules throughout the day or week.
Configure Locations for your Practice Group and set the availability of the appointment for your chosen locations. This allows you to offer the correct services when you're practising at multiple sites.
